I am certain that everybody knows at least one person who would consider running for city council. A person who would truly like to see this community pull itself out of its current situation and forward to prosperity.

Anonymous said...

I can think of several individuals that I would like to see on the City Council. I plan to support Republican Dick Stewert.

Anonymous said...

Paul Ethridge would be another excellent choice. A no non-sense guy that would tell it like it is and vote accordingly.

I would hope that he may decide to run for Council.

Anonymous said...

I again will support Councilman Steve Price.

Anonymous said...

The best thing that could happen is get a mayor from outside this political machine, along with five new council members.

A male or a female mayor could bring new energy and honesty that is missing within our city government.

But who is the question?

Anonymous said...

Part of the frustration is our inept city government and waste. As we experienced in past elections in New Albany, they will eat you alive if the click does not like you.

I wonder how many elected officials actually have backgrounds anywhere near the area of finance and economics.

Looking at where the city is going I would have to say not many.

Anonymous said...

If your looking for someone from the outside, than you need not look any further than Valla Ann.
This women has been at many Council meetings and articulating her points in a very upstanding and polite way.

You can tell by the way she speaks that she would be the perfect person for At-Large or even Mayor.
It would be unfair to say I know this women. But yet, it is people like her that would run this City in a fair and reasonable way.

Anonymous said...

Doug England is clearly the best and most intelligent for the next mayor.

Anonymous said...

anonymous,

I dont trust him with my money.

Anonymous said...

I think Marcy Wisman has seen her last year as Clerk. What a bad taste in voter's mouths since she has won.

Anonymous said...

Doug England as Mayor would be a DISASTER! The boys will have to find something else to do with their time because the days of smoke filled rooms and back door dealings are done.
There has never been a bigger loser than Doug England.

Anonymous said...

Will we ever see the day when real, honest, mature, strong, leaders with integrity and no political or personal interest step up?

We have all been bamboozled by Garner and England.

Anonymous said...

Which side of the fense is Donnie Blevins on today?

Anonymous said...

At least Councilman Price is trying to make a differents. Unlike other councilman.

Anonymous said...

Porn business not paying off for Sharlow?

Is it going to increase city revenue?

Anonymous said...

Is that a progressive idea?

Anonymous said...

giggle giggle giggle!

Anonymous said...

democrat voter:

I also will throw my support to Councilman Price. Councilman Price represents the interests of the average citizen.(little people) And does stay in touch with constituents and uses a common sense approach in decision-making.
He has our families support.

Anonymous said...

I would like to know why some of the other blogs do not deal with the real issues concerning us citizens like;

sewers
mismanagement
wasteful spending
increasing fees

This election is critical to every homeowner in New Albany.

Anonymous said...

I look for candidates who do not have self interest and personal agendas. In my estination, Gayhan, Blevins, Coffey, Messer and now Zurchmiede would not even be on council in other cities where people think normal.

New Albany is so corrupted by our mayor, city council, board members thinking that nobody sees the personal gains, agendas for what it really is. This is sad.

And now they want us to vote them back into office.

Anonymous said...

Sorry people, what seems like pessimism to some is realism to others. If you don't agree, watch your tax statement this spring.

Always remember, people get the government they deserve.

Anonymous said...

Is Councilman Jeff Gayhan running for mayor?

Anonymous said...

I would like to see Vicki Denhart run against Messer, Blevins, she's smart, and quite electable. If any of you know her please call her and encourage her to run.

Anonymous said...

I heard Jeff Gahan was NOT running for Mayor. Is he still running for his seat on the Council?

Anonymous said...

If your looking for a Conservative candidate in this race look no further than Councilman Price.

He is the real deal.

Anonymous said...

Drop the pay to zero and you might not get the best people to run for election, but they'd be more interested in their civic duty than how much they were taking home on the public dime. And that might be better for the city in the long run.

Anonymous said...

Good idea.

Some people do care what bloggers have to say.

Some people subscribe to bloggers to hear what they say.

Some people view bloggers as trusted sources.

Some people trust bloggers more than politicians.

You say no one cares. I care.
--kevin

Anonymous said...

James Garner is a wimp and a coward and a disgrace to his family and this city.
He blames everyone for his mistakes.

Shall we list them?

Anonymous said...

It is time for residents and politicians take a look at property tax reform.

Property taxes do not reflect ability to pay, only a value attached to a home.

My assessment doubled.

Anonymous said...

Well it finally happened.

Councilman Steve Price got him a place in Blogland. I think it's very cool, personally. I like getting another way to interact with my councilman.
I also like seeing Steve throw down with NAC Roger Baylor about his facts and issues facing our city.

LOCAL BLOGS DO PLAY A PART IN LOCAL ELECTIONS. THE COOLER LOCAL BLOGS HAVE A REAL FOLLOWING. LOOK AT THE IMPACT OF LAST YEARS COUNTY ELECTIONS.

Anonymous said...

It seems that everyone in N.A. is talking about blogs these days. But for most local political campaigns, it's the local blogs that can make a big difference-generating buzz.

Many local blogs are starting to gain a following. Take for example the FOS Blog. As a regular reader of FOS knows, the whole purpose of a blog is to communicate with, motivate, and expressive your point of view. And the concerns of the citizens.

The power of blogging is they have an audience of the right people called taxpayers and voters.

Well, that's a blog worth tracking.

Unlike other blogs, you can not understand their point of view.

The real vital element of a local blog--to energize the readers. Inform them, educate, and stick your neck out.

"Sure, it opens you up to people who are going to criticize you."

Keeping an eye on what the local blogging community is saying can be an important part of running a campaign.

Blogs will matter in '07 City Election.

Anonymous said...

I am sure that we all know other people who would be good candidates. The problem is that without people changing their way of thinking, the status quo will continue and New Albany will continue to grind to a halt.

Anonymous said...

Instead of hiding behind your computers, do something about the problems that exist in our community.

Instead of blogging, try to actually do something to help improve our city.

Anonymous said...

STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES. Voting for the same idiots with the same philosophy over, and over will not cause things to change or improve.

England Garner Scharlow

Have I made my point?

Anonymous said...

8:01 campaigns cost $$$

Anonymous said...

I want honest government.

I want an effective government.

I want equal service and justice for all.

We need more honest people; and what's best for the people. I will put my vote where my mouth is on election day.

None of the above

Anonymous said...

I am supporting Schmidt, Price and Coffey. I feel all 3 will win.

Any word on Englands poll?

Anonymous said...

Mayor Garner, I am offering you some unsolicited advice, from someone who actually worked and built a successful business.

The damage you have done to our city will take years to fix. How you can even think we will even consider supporting you is beyond me.

Anonymous said...

Garner and England should be ran out of town on a rail. Those crooks
don't deserve re-election.

Fed up Democrat

Anonymous said...

The roaches are coming out from behind the wall, to run for election. More good ole boys signed up today.

The progressives are waiting under the rocks.

Anonymous said...

Will Councilman Jeff Gayhan come out and declare his run for mayor?

Anonymous said...

I heard Valla Ann Bolovschak maybe a candidate for mayor this year. I heard it from a very good source in Indianapolis. She has been pondering it for months and should make a decision she'd be a good mayor.

Most Dems love her because she's classy, brassy and she's outspoken.

This is a win-win scenario for us in any light.

Anonymous said...

CAN SHE TALK THE TALK; WALK THE WALK?

Anonymous said...

With all the recent council bashing don't forget the buck stops with our mayor. Price, Kochert, Schmidt and Coffey don't deserve to be lumped together with the rest of the council. I'm sure many of us could find instances where we did not agree with these councilman.

So lets put the blame where it belongs. On the mayors puppets.

Anonymous said...

AMEN REFRESHING, YOU PUT IT SO WELL.

Anonymous said...

Predictions: Hubbard for Mayor; Price will beat Goldberg; Kochert will probably get beat by Pat McGloughlin; Crump isn't running and our family is glad SOMEONE is running against Dick Bliss (ignorance is Bliss) for that seat; Zurschmeide will re-win at-large; Coffey will win (no competition); Schmidt will win (district too loyal); Blevins -- nah; Kenny Kielman will win; Wisman will win City Clerk; Messer ?, not too sure about that one; have no clue if Gahan is running again or not.

Anonymous said...

And somewhere in all that fray, Dick Stewart will win too.

Anonymous said...

Hubbard is a joke. What does he know about running a city when he did not even run the sheriff's department.

Stupid republican's!

Anonymous said...

Independent candidate John "Walton" Alton needs to move out of his momma's house and get a job!

Anonymous said...

I think this hole mayor's race is a big joke! No wonder everyone voted for none of the above candidates. In Doug Englands poll.

Anonymous said...

Bubba roger the facist, nazi. atheist has became a real pig.
We no longer see humor in his attacks on certain blogs and my councilman Price.
You go Freedom of Speech.

Anonymous said...

Randy Hubbard came into politics honest, he has finally turning into one of the republican "good ole boys"!

Anonymous said...

Gee..I wonder whose side you're on.

Democrats? Republicans? or Citizens side?

Anonymous said...

Between England and Garner the only thing we need to know is this:
Do you prefer cash in marked or unmarked bills?

Anonymous said...

I think in New Albany, we've become so self-deluded that 'correct thinking people' just don't talk that way. We've stylized ourselfs as the politically-correct and sanctified paragons of example to the rest should behave, speak and think.

Anonymous said...

Mayor Garner playing the race card is wrong. I love how Garner simply hasn't given a damn. I often don't agree with his politics, but we need more "Price style" politicians
in New Albany to present an alternative to Garners sick level of running our city.

Anonymous said...

Doug England? You have got to be kidding. What is the old says? Screw me once, screw me twice?

Anonymous said...

Amen to your posting proud democrat. My thoughts EXACTLY.

Anonymous said...

I think the entire mayor's race is a joke. Why would we want any of these so called crooks and losers?

Give us a break!

Anonymous said...

All of those reasons and more are why Randy Hubbard will win Mayor of New Albany. He's not "one of the good 'ole boys". He is simply himself, trying to serve this community.

The knowledge of the City, the knowledge of government, the knowledge of budgets, his attendance at meetings are all going to be the strongest platform you could possibly stand on. That and his integrity.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous, I wish that everyone would realise that Hubbard is all smoke and mirrors to stop Valla Ann. The republicans are scared of her. But the democrats love her.

You figure that one out.

Anonymous said...

My question is how anyone could make an argument on the side of Mayor James Garner and Doug England when even their fellow Democrats urged neither one to run.

Now does any of this make sense? The facts are there.

Anonymous said...

My question is why would former Mayor Doug England phone Roger Baylor?
Roger calls himself "senior editor", of what?
NAC should be called NAC Daily Wipe sounds more like it.

Anonymous said...

That's a hoot!

Anonymous said...

Garner and England is what they call politicians who want power. Why else would someone play the political game where success was dependent on perpetrating lies and half-truths for only a modest salary?

England's election announcement reminded me of Jimmy Swaggart, forgive me father for I have sinned speech.

Anonymous said...

and thereis democrats dont like valla who?

Anonymous said...

I am disqusted by the way Jack Messer has acted. I will never support him in any race. He should have conducted himself like Councilman Schmidt.

Anonymous said...

Great article on Freedom of Speech today. Glad some one has balls to put the truth out.

Anonymous said...

plezzzzzzzzzeee, looks like to me the Kool-Aid man is looking for a few more citizens to come join his cult! Do not think for one minute the democrats don't know who were at those last 2 meetings.

Anonymous said...

While checking out the local blogs this morning. I ran across new albany today blog. Thought I would correct his posting for him:

I Maury Goldberg, am a candidate for the Third District City Council seat in New Albany, Indiana.

I have put forth information on who I am:

I belong to the Kool-Aid club, they have assured me they can get me elected.

I am a follower of the NAC Progressives and not a leader like Roger Baylor.

I need to pay back the $900.00 1-900 phone calls, I ran up during the last mayoral election.

I am a card carrying Porn Club member.

I am running against Councilman Steve Price.

Who believe's in a better New Albany. He has a "can do spirit" of getting problems solved and not having a negative approach.

I support his stand on take home cars, two tier system, being proactive, watching taxpayers nickels and dimes.

And I Maury Goldberg, agree with Third District Councilman Steve Price when he stated several month's ago that this administration is raping the taxpayers of New Albany.

With your help, Councilman Price will make New Albany a better place to live and work. Not only for his family, but for our children and the generations to come.

Why am I running, oh yeah, I am a progressive and I do what I am told to do.

Vote Maury

Anonymous said...

Hey bloggers, did anyone read the sermon on NAC yesterday?
What's this shit about Kool-Aid?

Anonymous said...

As a union employee of the City of New Albany, the citizens deserve to hear the truth. "We have able-bodied men and women, who show up everyday willing to do an honest days work for an honest day's pay," Garner said, "We must respect the men and women on the frontline who will do all that they can to help the city climb out of the unthinkable deficit that has been created--not by workers--but by the previous administration." (He continues to blame the previous mayor for his mistakes)

The mayor cannot ask us unions to make concessions unless he himself has made concessions, including giving up credit cards, reducing his staff, and his wasteful spending. "Cuts must be made at the top first and this Mayor hasn't done that." He continue's to play the blame game.

Thanks for letting me vent.
Great blog fed-up

Anonymous said...

He has been the mayor for 3 years. How long will he blame the former administration?

The union workers should not have to make concessions!!

What concessions has he made?

Anonymous said...

When you become a baylorite. You receive your choice of kool-aid flavors, along with the progressive approval idiot card. A signed copy of Baylor's dick tatar ship, aka progressive. Then he leads, then you follow. Then you drink the kool-aid.

Anonymous said...

I had a dream, do you get a cape and a hood or a swastika banner too?

Anonymous said...

"Getting New Albany back on track is going to require honest information, a willingness to work together and putting our city's long-term interests ahead of short-term political concerns."

Unfortunately, Mayor Garner and Douglas England has failed the test on every score.

Anonymous said...

SOLNA is NOT history in this town. Laura has a new post and will have more info later.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the info Laura

Anonymous said...

Stupid is stupid does.

Voting for the same idiots with the same agendas and philosophy over and over again does not solve our city's problems.

Valla Ann would be an excellent addition to the mayor's race, or the council race.

This council needs some common sense help.

Anonymous said...

It is unconscionable that this mayor refuses to tell the City Council, or the taxpayers of New Albany, what he's doing to keep our city out of receivership.

It's the height of arrogance to think Garner is answerable to no one, or that the city's future can be put on hold until after the election November 8th.

Anonymous said...

We made it big time. NAC now wants to come over and play. Or should we rollout the red carpet for ass hole baylor?

Anyone know why Larry Kochert did not file?
That was a disappointment.

Anonymous said...

I really hope they put felony charges against Mayor James Garner, and run Doug England out of town. Larry Scharlow has filed bankruptcy, and had a hand in bring a porn shop to New Albany.

And then I ask myself why would I even vote for Randy Hubbard?

Anonymous said...

fed up also, you got a damn good point there. Are you as fed up as the rest of us?

Anonymous said...

What bastard Garner didn't tell us is our projected job growth is actually negative, that is, we are projected to lose New Albany jobs. What he hasn't bothered to tell us that businesses are closing at an astonishing rate. And he has not told us our tax burden is growing, our tax base is shrinking and all he wants to do is spend more money.

The question to really be asked here is, what is any of these mayoral candidate's vision for New Albany?
It is obviously one of kiss the builders asses, and developers, tax the hell out of us and spend every damn last dime we all make!

Anonymous said...

calm down damn fed up, were all mad as hell. Who do we get to pick from? Slick dougie, Garner the screw up and bankrupcy porn Scharlow. Look at Hubbard? He hasn't worked an 8 hour day in over a year. He put a gun up to his head over a married women he was banging. Served rotten food to the inmates. Womenized with various citizens and he does not even have a platform. Then we have the kool-aid drinking idiot, who has all the answers, and an athesist. But Hubbard says I'll just ask the citizens what they want me to do.

Gee louise, god help us if some diaster hits New Albany.

Anonymous said...

My opinion is Randy Hubbard has integrity. Something the rest of them dont know the meaning

Anonymous said...

Randy Hubbard with integrity? Boy, have you got alot to learn.
Convince us he had nothing to do with the latest sex scandal at the jail.

Anonymous said...

great blog you got here

Anonymous said...

Randy Stumler ought to be ashamed of himself.

Thinking the democrat central committee can propose a policy of primary endorsements.

Hasn't the democrats sent him a loud enough message in his defeat by Mark Seabrook? And his defeat as County Council President?

What the hell is the Democrat Central Committee doing for any democrat candidate, other than James Garner and their selective few!

Anonymous said...

Rumor is the state slapped him around for his statements

Anonymous said...

I heard the rumor Mr. England gave him a call?

BTW seems like candidate England is really cutting some really stupid deals right now. It just shows how desperate he is.

Anonymous said...

Check out today's NA Confidential. Mr. Confidential chose to blast CM Price instead of commenting on the 3 ring circus of a meeting last night.

Maybe because the ring leaders were his 2 heros Jack Messer & James Garner?

Anonymous said...

Check it out? Maybe you should actually read what he said.

Anonymous said...

Jack Messer made an ass out of himself. But then why not he is nothing but a pig!

Anonymous said...

I'd say it was more like Toran making an ass out of himself with the mayor.

This city has went to hell in a hand basket.

Anonymous said...

Sounded like to me the mayor has made things personal when it came to the Fire Department deal.

Another Jack Messer lie: "I told Larry I'm not backing because I think he can give me something, I'm backing him because I think he's the best candidate."

Just a typical ass kissin cop who wants to be Chief of the New Albany Police Department.

Do you know what Sharlow, Cannon, and Goldberg has in common? They're all connected to porn.

Not a rumor about Cannon. They have enough evidence to put him in prison. Let's start with him and make him the new poster boy for corruption.

Anonymous said...

We need a full. Investigation now.

Anonymous said...

Yes we need an investigation and we need to clean house.

NAC is blasting Steve Price again. Cant't that bunch come up with a new topic?

Anonymous said...

When your the kool-aid man what do you expect? Since no one is writing comments on his blog his so called ego is unfeed.

Since he is trying to play both-sides (Garner and England) but England has now figured out roger is nothing but smoke and mirrors anyway.

But then again you have to have a brain to play New Albanys political game.

Anonymous said...

Don't worry about Councilman Price, he might be short but he sure can handle Mr. Baylor!

Check out A Fiscally Conservative Dem. There is a letter from former Bldg Comm Broadus. It is great.

BTW Roger has a thread going on "affordable" housing and absentee landlords. These rich people (for lack of a better word) make me sick. They want to put down people who can't afford $100,000 & up homes and are forced to rent.

What we need is decent housing and enforcement of the laws already on the books.

We need to elect working class people to public office because they know what it's like to have to worry about making ends meet. I get so sick of these elitists telling everybody else how to live.

Anonymous said...

The New Albanian said...

Yawn.

Anonymous said...

Can anyone tell why Garner and Chief Toran think they own the city of New Albany? Anyone hear what they have done with the firedepartment? It's sickening. They hired people that didn't even take the tests simply b/c they are African American. And I hear Garner hired his secretarys relative while Toran hired a friend that didn't even fill out an application. There are a handful of good ole white boys that more than qualified and got screwed by these 2 guys. Why is this allowed to happen??
