2007 Election Filing
Since today is the first filing date for candidates to file who do you think will run or should run for the 2007 election.

I am certain that everybody knows at least one person who would consider running for city council. A person who would truly like to see this community pull itself out of its current situation and forward to prosperity.
Part of the frustration is our inept city government and waste. As we experienced in past elections in New Albany, they will eat you alive if the click does not like you.
I wonder how many elected officials actually have backgrounds anywhere near the area of finance and economics.
Looking at where the city is going I would have to say not many.
If your looking for someone from the outside, than you need not look any further than Valla Ann. This women has been at many Council meetings and articulating her points in a very upstanding and polite way.
You can tell by the way she speaks that she would be the perfect person for At-Large or even Mayor. It would be unfair to say I know this women. But yet, it is people like her that would run this City in a fair and reasonable way.
Doug England as Mayor would be a DISASTER! The boys will have to find something else to do with their time because the days of smoke filled rooms and back door dealings are done. There has never been a bigger loser than Doug England.
I also will throw my support to Councilman Price. Councilman Price represents the interests of the average citizen.(little people) And does stay in touch with constituents and uses a common sense approach in decision-making. He has our families support.
I look for candidates who do not have self interest and personal agendas. In my estination, Gayhan, Blevins, Coffey, Messer and now Zurchmiede would not even be on council in other cities where people think normal.
New Albany is so corrupted by our mayor, city council, board members thinking that nobody sees the personal gains, agendas for what it really is. This is sad.
And now they want us to vote them back into office.
I would like to see Vicki Denhart run against Messer, Blevins, she's smart, and quite electable. If any of you know her please call her and encourage her to run.
Drop the pay to zero and you might not get the best people to run for election, but they'd be more interested in their civic duty than how much they were taking home on the public dime. And that might be better for the city in the long run.
Councilman Steve Price got him a place in Blogland. I think it's very cool, personally. I like getting another way to interact with my councilman. I also like seeing Steve throw down with NAC Roger Baylor about his facts and issues facing our city. go-steve-go

Many local blogs are starting to gain a following. Take for example the FOS Blog. As a regular reader of FOS knows, the whole purpose of a blog is to communicate with, motivate, and expressive your point of view. And the concerns of the citizens.
The power of blogging is they have an audience of the right people called taxpayers and voters.
Well, that's a blog worth tracking.
Unlike other blogs, you can not understand their point of view.
The real vital element of a local blog--to energize the readers. Inform them, educate, and stick your neck out.
"Sure, it opens you up to people who are going to criticize you."
Keeping an eye on what the local blogging community is saying can be an important part of running a campaign.
I am sure that we all know other people who would be good candidates. The problem is that without people changing their way of thinking, the status quo will continue and New Albany will continue to grind to a halt.
I heard Valla Ann Bolovschak maybe a candidate for mayor this year. I heard it from a very good source in Indianapolis. She has been pondering it for months and should make a decision she'd be a good mayor.
Most Dems love her because she's classy, brassy and she's outspoken.
With all the recent council bashing don't forget the buck stops with our mayor. Price, Kochert, Schmidt and Coffey don't deserve to be lumped together with the rest of the council. I'm sure many of us could find instances where we did not agree with these councilman.
So lets put the blame where it belongs. On the mayors puppets.
Predictions: Hubbard for Mayor; Price will beat Goldberg; Kochert will probably get beat by Pat McGloughlin; Crump isn't running and our family is glad SOMEONE is running against Dick Bliss (ignorance is Bliss) for that seat; Zurschmeide will re-win at-large; Coffey will win (no competition); Schmidt will win (district too loyal); Blevins -- nah; Kenny Kielman will win; Wisman will win City Clerk; Messer ?, not too sure about that one; have no clue if Gahan is running again or not.

I think in New Albany, we've become so self-deluded that 'correct thinking people' just don't talk that way. We've stylized ourselfs as the politically-correct and sanctified paragons of example to the rest should behave, speak and think.
Mayor Garner playing the race card is wrong. I love how Garner simply hasn't given a damn. I often don't agree with his politics, but we need more "Price style" politicians in New Albany to present an alternative to Garners sick level of running our city.
All of those reasons and more are why Randy Hubbard will win Mayor of New Albany. He's not "one of the good 'ole boys". He is simply himself, trying to serve this community.
The knowledge of the City, the knowledge of government, the knowledge of budgets, his attendance at meetings are all going to be the strongest platform you could possibly stand on. That and his integrity.

Why am I running, oh yeah, I am a progressive and I do what I am told to do.
As a union employee of the City of New Albany, the citizens deserve to hear the truth. "We have able-bodied men and women, who show up everyday willing to do an honest days work for an honest day's pay," Garner said, "We must respect the men and women on the frontline who will do all that they can to help the city climb out of the unthinkable deficit that has been created--not by workers--but by the previous administration." (He continues to blame the previous mayor for his mistakes)
The mayor cannot ask us unions to make concessions unless he himself has made concessions, including giving up credit cards, reducing his staff, and his wasteful spending. "Cuts must be made at the top first and this Mayor hasn't done that." He continue's to play the blame game.
When you become a baylorite. You receive your choice of kool-aid flavors, along with the progressive approval idiot card. A signed copy of Baylor's dick tatar ship, aka progressive. Then he leads, then you follow. Then you drink the kool-aid.
"Getting New Albany back on track is going to require honest information, a willingness to work together and putting our city's long-term interests ahead of short-term political concerns."
Unfortunately, Mayor Garner and Douglas England has failed the test on every score.
It is unconscionable that this mayor refuses to tell the City Council, or the taxpayers of New Albany, what he's doing to keep our city out of receivership.
It's the height of arrogance to think Garner is answerable to no one, or that the city's future can be put on hold until after the election November 8th.
I look for candidates who do not represent self interest. New Albany is so corrupt by the good ole' boys. Look close at all the current council members voting records and a majority have self interest written all over them.

I really hope they put felony charges against Mayor James Garner, and run Doug England out of town. Larry Scharlow has filed bankruptcy, and had a hand in bring a porn shop to New Albany.

What bastard Garner didn't tell us is our projected job growth is actually negative, that is, we are projected to lose New Albany jobs. What he hasn't bothered to tell us that businesses are closing at an astonishing rate. I can think of several individuals that I would like to see on the City Council. I plan to support Republican Dick Stewert.
Paul Ethridge would be another excellent choice. A no non-sense guy that would tell it like it is and vote accordingly.
I would hope that he may decide to run for Council.

Anyone know why Larry Kochert did not file?
That was a disappointment.
I really hope they put felony charges against Mayor James Garner, and run Doug England out of town. Larry Scharlow has filed bankruptcy, and had a hand in bring a porn shop to New Albany.
And then I ask myself why would I even vote for Randy Hubbard?

What bastard Garner didn't tell us is our projected job growth is actually negative, that is, we are projected to lose New Albany jobs. What he hasn't bothered to tell us that businesses are closing at an astonishing rate. And he has not told us our tax burden is growing, our tax base is shrinking and all he wants to do is spend more money.
The question to really be asked here is, what is any of these mayoral candidate's vision for New Albany?
It is obviously one of kiss the builders asses, and developers, tax the hell out of us and spend every damn last dime we all make!

Can anyone tell why Garner and Chief Toran think they own the city of New Albany? Anyone hear what they have done with the firedepartment? It's sickening. They hired people that didn't even take the tests simply b/c they are African American. And I hear Garner hired his secretarys relative while Toran hired a friend that didn't even fill out an application. There are a handful of good ole white boys that more than qualified and got screwed by these 2 guys. Why is this allowed to happen??
